CBD products buying checklist

Purchasing below-standard CBD oil can result in dissatisfaction or even loss of faith in the benefits of CBD. In the worst cases, you may even get sick if you purchase CBD from an unscrupulous vendor.

That’s why we’ve compiled this quick list of the top 5 things to look for when purchasing CBD oil.

Choosing a vendor with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) Certification is important because it ensures the integrity of their manufacturing process as well as their compliance with food safety regulations.

While regulation in the CBD industry is increasing, there are still a number of unscrupulous brands out there selling products that are not fully standardized to GMP requirements. GMP certification also allows for full traceability from the raw material to the final product.

Make sure that your go-to CBD brand is GMP certified!

A Certificate of Analysis indicates the cannabinoid and potency profile of the final product. When considering your CBD brand, a full COA should be available for each product.

The COA must also include information about any trace metals or contaminants. It is standard practice to test for these, and a COA that does not contain this information is incomplete.

Finally, it’s vital that the COA is produced by a 3rd-party independent laboratory, to ensure that there is no bias in the results. If you purchase a supplement without a proper COA, you may be buying something toxic or fraudulent.

Is it raw, distilled, or isolated?

There are big differences between different types of CBD, and it’s important to fully understand what you’re buying. At Medicileaf, we stock three different forms of CBD:

Raw, crude extract: Standardised to >60% pure CBD, this is the least refined tincture oil and has a thick, woody texture. It is packed full of additional trace cannabinoids, terpenes, phytochemicals, and even plant minerals that all help to produce a very pronounced set of effects. Contains < 0.3% THC.

CBD Distillate Oil: Slightly more refined than the raw tincture, this CBD distillate is standardized to >65% pure CBD – together with a full complement of accompanying hemp cannabinoids and fresh terpenes for the full entourage effect. Contains < 0.3% THC.

CBD Isolate: Our CBD Isolate comes in both solid and liquid forms, and is standardized to >99% pure CBD. This is recommended to persons who are looking for the purest form of CBD possible, with zero THC content.

Hemp can be grown in a number of different ways, and not all methods of farming hemp are equal. To be safe, always go with vendors who use organically-grown hemp from the United States.

There are strict regulations on the way that hemp can be grown in the US, which prevents unscrupulous growers from flooding the market with badly-grown crops.

It’s also important to make sure that your CBD vendor uses CBD made from hemp plants, and not from cannabis plants. While they are technically the same species, hemp plants are classified by having <0.3% THC, while marijuana plants may have THC content of anywhere between 5 – 20%, and CBD made from this plant is not legal in most States.

Finally, you’ll want to check that your vendor sells CBD that is 100% natural and doesn’t include any man-made chemicals or preservatives.

Make sure that the hemp used to produce the final product was organically grown without pesticides – you don’t want any of those nasty chemicals making their way into your CBD tincture!

Wherever possible, try opt for CBD produced from non-GMO hemp crops. The final CBD product is a wonder of nature, may as well keep the ingredients involved in its production as natural as possible!
